Mark Gagnon

Mark Gagnon has had an extensive career as an illustrator working with such publications as the New York Times, Rolling Stone Magazine, V magazine, Harpers Bazaar, GQ, and much more. In recent years his work has started to take on a freedom of its own making, allowing it to align with a fervent wit and ironic commentary. Gagnon does not just wish to illustrate an image in his paintings, he strives to engage in a visual dialogue of enticement and gentle provocation.

Although his subjects are thoughtful and conceptually rich, Gagnon is most interested in the humor and the humanity that can be gleaned in the places were images and symbols of the past mix with the randomness of modernity, often creating unexpected, humorous, and often poignant vignettes. Gagnon’s playful juxtapositions ring true and help us see how much we want to understand and explore our past, even as we are inextricably locked in the present.
